I AM A DAUGHTER

I am a daughter and since childhood I’ve been told,
That my parents won't age, they won't grow old.

They won't get tired standing in a queue,
Afterall running a house is an easy thing to do.

They won't fall ill and just in case they do,
They will take care of themselves, without much ado!

They won't need their daughter on festivals or occasions;
Aren't they used to being alone in their low key celebrations?

They are human and may get insecure, anxious or bored;
But loneliness is a luxury they simply cannot afford!

They would have planned their finances well ahead in time.
As they believe "Taking daughter's money is a crime".

They would look forward to vacation all through the year;
When their life would have a meaning as their daughter would be near.

And when the time comes, they will bid goodbye without grimace;
Since they've embraced parting as a way of life with grace.

Their souls may long to see their daughter, and their hearts might weep.
But they know their daughter has duties and promises to keep.

Unlike a son's parents, a daughter's parents don't grow old;
They just become stronger by the day with their responsibilities to hold.

And in case if a daughter looks after her parents, they are often told,
"Oh, how lucky you are - You have got a son to behold!"
